American TikToker goes viral with video of ‘unreal’ Glasgow accent

Kjordy, who describes himself as “a meer yanks amongst Brits” on the social media platform, recently visited the city for the first time while travelling Scotland.

The content creator, who has more than 260,000 followers, spoke to two men at the Four Corners and asked them “what are some things I need to know about Scotland?”

One of the men responded: “You need to know they’re trying to split up the country and all that and we don’t want that.

“We want a decent council and that’s basically [it].

“Things are pretty poor just now.”

When the second man was asked his thoughts, he added: “The same as what [he] said.”

However, Kjordy was unsure what the answer to his question was as he said: “I didn’t understand a word but it was awesome.”

He also captioned the video “I will transfer £10 to the first person who can decode this” and added to text to the video that read “Scottish accent is unreal”.

The video has had more than 2.1million views at the time of writing since it was uploaded less than two days ago.

Some viewers also struggled to understand the men with one person writing: “The only English I don’t understand.”

Another commented: “If it helps I’m from Ayrshire Scotland and have lived here all 20 years of my life and have not a clue what either of them said.”

However others said they could clearly understand what was being said.

One said: “Perfectly clear, what’s the problem?”

A second agreed: “I love being Scottish and I completely understood what he said.”

In a previous video, Kjordy said Glasgow has a “complete different vibe than Edinburgh” and also says the accent is much harder to understand but described it as “sick”.

He said: “To me, it’s night and day.

“The best way to put it [is] Glasgow feels like I’m in the UK again and I know that sounds so wild to say.

“The accents are 10 times harder to understand.

“Imagine Shrek or imagine the most Scottish person you can think of, that’s what they sound like and half the time I don’t understand what they’re saying but it sounds absolutely sick.

“I could be wrong but it seems a little more hard knock, it has a little more grit than Edinburgh.

“The best part is there is graffiti all over the city, its very artsy and has a little bit of charm that I really love.”

He continued to share footage of the Duke of Wellington statue with the famous traffic cone on his head before coming across some singing Celtic fans ahead of their match against Hibs on Sunday, March 9.

He concluded: “All in all, Glasgow is a beautiful city.

“When it comes to vibes and appearance I gotta give it to Edinburgh cause its still better but Glasgow was still awesome.”
