Jean Paul Agambi Quartet in Glasgow

9 October @ 7:30 pm - 11:00 pm

£7

Founded in 2022, the Jean Paul Agambi Quartet has recently signed to False Idols, the label owned by Tricky, with their debut in early autumn 2023.

Tricky is a British artist known for his music that blends elements of trip hop, rap, and rock. He emerged in the ’90s as an integral part of the Massive Attack collective before embarking on a successful solo career. His 1995 album, “Maxinquaye”, is often cited as one of the foundational records of the trip hop genre. In addition to his music career, Tricky has also acted in some films and television programs.

While crafting Atomic Urban Extravaganza, Jean Paul Agambi’s essence became apparent. It’s a diverse project highlighting the juxtaposition of urban tunes, brass sounds, and a primarily white vocal tone. The musical composition is the collaborative effort of Ferri and Elle, who have combined their expertise for several years: Elle leans towards urban rhythms, while Ferri resonates with punk.

Hailing from Glasgow, Elle is a music producer and composer. He first emerged in the music scene as a rapper and lyricist for BMG Records and EMI (Traccia Mista). Progressing, he ventured into producing solo artists and delved into the study of Oud and Middle Eastern melodies at the Arrigo Pedrollo conservatory in Vicenza, Italy. Since 2016, Elle has pioneered and directed a musical initiative in Lebanon to aid Syrian child refugees, specifically Farida and Bashir.

Barcelona-based Ferri is a music producer and composer. As the founder of Delta V (affiliated with BMG Ricordi and Virgin Record), he currently collaborates with numerous independent Italian lyricists.

The Jean Paul Agambi Quartet is deeply inspired by urban, punk, and jazz genres. Their lyrical content emphasizes the importance of human interactions and the intrinsic role they play in human growth. These songs often paint the backdrop of societal settings, portraying both protagonists and antagonists who evolve distinctively. The ensemble encapsulates the ’90s urban vibe, infused with contemporary electronic, rock, and brass elements.

The inception of Atomic Urban Extravaganza took place between Elle’s residence in Glasgow and Flavio’s in Barcelona. It’s a product of teamwork with gifted artists like Scottish lyricist Elissa Poli, trumpet artist Simone Trovato, and guitarist Gabriele Di Tanna.
