Monthly Rides: The Bridges of Glasgow

22 April @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

Join Glasgow Sustrans volunteers for a leisurely led ride along the River Clyde, exploring the traffic free routes that run East to West via Glasgow’s bridges.

We start outside the People’s Palace on Glasgow Green by the Doulton Fountain. If you are able to cycle here please do, but if you need to arrive by car there is parking nearby on Templeton Street. The route takes us to Bridgeton and then along London Road to the Emirates Arena using dedicated cycle lanes / shared paths. From there we go to the Cuningar Bridge and into the Loop, with time to explore it and climb the new viewing point. From there we follow the Clyde Walkway to the Riverside Museum and after stopping for coffee, return to Glasgow Green. We pass or cross a number of bridges over the Clyde and we will have a commentary on them as we go along.

🗺️ Take a look at the route here

It is about 13 miles long on mainly level surfaces, and there are no significant hills. You will need a reasonable level of fitness, but the pace will be gentle. We will be using cycling infrastructure with occasional sections on the road.

🐌 This is a leisure ride so we’ll travel at the pace of the slowest rider and take regular breaks.

What to bring

🚴 A bike, a lock, and a helmet if you wear one. Here is a quick video on how to safety check your bike.

🍌 Snacks and drinks, so you can stay fueled and hydrated.

💧 Waterproofs and warm comfy layers.

🐛 You might want to download a wildlife ID app like i-record and look out for signs of Spring.
