Glasgow’s wet roads, grit and winter grime make routine car care more important, but no protective treatment makes a vehicle maintenance-free. A few simple choices can help drivers protect the finish without buying more than they need.
Start with washing. Rinse loose dirt from the bodywork before touching the paint, use clean wash media, and avoid dragging grit across lower panels. Clean the wheels and the dirtiest areas with separate tools. If you use a pressure washer, follow its safety guidance and keep the jet away from damaged trim or edges of protective film.
For a car regularly driven on motorways or gritted roads, paint protection film (PPF) can help shield selected high-impact areas such as the front bumper and bonnet from minor stone-chip and abrasion damage. Its coverage, appearance and maintenance requirements should be discussed before installation. It will not prevent every impact.
Ceramic coating serves a different purpose. On properly prepared paint, it can improve water behaviour and make routine cleaning easier, but it is not a substitute for PPF where chip resistance is the priority. Some owners choose both, using film on vulnerable areas and a compatible coating as part of a broader care plan.
Before booking either service, ask what paint preparation is included, which panels will be covered, how the vehicle should be washed afterwards, and what any warranty actually covers. The right answer depends on the car, its use and the owner’s budget.
