Seafood restaurant to close as owners to take venue in ‘new direction’

Shucks, located on Hyndland Road, will close it’s doors on Sunday, January 12 after two years but bosses are telling customers to “stay tuned” as they plant to “bring a fresh vision to life”.

The eatery, which was opened two years by the team behind Cail Bruich and Brett, was recommended in the 2023 Michelin Guide and Good Food Guide.

In a post shared on Instagram, business owners wrote: “We have an announcement – it’s time to say goodbye…

“Sunday the 12th of January will be our last time cooking at Shucks.

“It will be a goodbye of sorts, we have enjoyed bringing the finest seafood to Hyndland’s main street for the last two years and being part of this incredible community, both of neighbourhood locals, and other guests who have travelled a little further to dine with us.”

They continued: “During our time here, we’ve come to understand what Hyndland wants and needs, and we’re excited to bring a fresh vision to life.

“The time feels right to take the venue in a new direction, and we can’t wait to share what’s next with you.

“In the meantime, we hope to see you all over the next week for one last oyster, a pint at the bar, or a Sunday roast and to cheers goodbye to Shucks.”

They also told anyone with gift vouchers for the restaurant “don’t worry” and said they will be honoured.

Actor Greg McHugh commented on the post to say he was “sad to read this”.

He wrote: “When filming Only Child we ate with you TWICE in one week because we all loved your food and service so much.

“All the best with your next endeavours. A truly fantastic restaurant.”

Another person commented: “Gutted. Loved Shucks.

“But looking forward to what’s next.”

A third added: “This is heart breaking. That sole is one of the best fishes I’ve had.”
